Top 10 Spring 2009 Fashion Trends By Brittany West - Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Ahhh... Finally after months of rain and wind, Spring has finally arrived!! So one of the most important questions on all our minds is, "What do we wear?"
Here are 10 of Springs Hottest trends...
Asymmetrical Dresses & Blouses
With so many different versions of this there is sure to be a style to suit every shape. Usually in the form of a flowy dress but often as a top or a fitted dress.

White Dresses
Definitely not replacing the ‘Little Black Dress’, the White Dress is a huge trend for this Spring. Instead of the simplicity and versatility of the LBD, though, the White Dress is a more glamorous pick in ruffles, maxi-lengths and sheer fabrics. Think Goddess!

High-Waisted Skirts, Pants & Shorts
High-waisted bottoms are the perfect way to achieve that flatter "cinched waist" effect that has been a big trend in general. Simple lines help achieve this look and create an ultra feminine silhouette.

Pantsuits & Shortsuits
Hot in the late 80’s, shortsuits are making there comeback and are much more stylish this time! Keep it simple and a tad drapey to avoid looking like a flashback from a fashion trend better left in the past.

See-Through, Sheer Fabrics
Bringing the "naked dress" to a whole new level, Sheer material is seen in everything from work blouses to evening gowns, it is a huge trend for Spring. On the runway pieces left little to the imagination with no layering, for the real world a simple slip or light tank make these stunning pieces more appropriate.

Harem Pants
There has been controversy on whether harem pants are flattering or a trend disaster. Surprisingly prevalent on the runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week the bollywood inspired pieces were paired with Chunky heels, and drapy tops making them a little more conceivable.

Cleopatra-Inspired
Many designers used jeweled-necklines and other accents that date back to the the days of Cleopatra.

Boho or Hippie Chic
Bohemian Style was a big hit with a few designers. And, many designers had this look going in at least one of their styles. Think peasant blouses, flowery prints, loose-fitting, etc. The best way to pull this off this Spring is to pair a bohemian styled piece with something a bit more conservative like a biege skirt, jeans or vest.

Color
Color is a huge consideration for pieces this Spring. So much so that it should be listed as a trend in and of itself. Bright colors were seen at Fashion Week including lemon yellows, neon oranges, chartreuse, fuschia and bright blues. Black and white are a staple and were present as well as neutrals such as tans and greys. Muted brights such as mint-green and coral are also big.

Ruffles & Bows
My personal favorite, ruffles and bows dressed up simple silhouettes in the Spring 2009 Collections. Look for bows at the shoulders and hips and ruffles at hemlines.
